FMAT schools Showcase 2026: Talented young musicians, dancers and actors from across Fairfax Multi-Academy Trust came together to perform on a professional stage at the University of Birmingham’s Bramall Music Hall.
The 2026 FMAT Showcase, held on October 22, gave students from Bournville All-Through School, Erdington Academy, Fairfax Academy and Smith’s Wood Academy, the opportunity to perform at the prestigious venue.

Mr David Ashford, Head of Music at Fairfax Academy, who oversaw the showcase, said: “It was such a wonderful night of performances. The students from all four schools did incredibly well and showcased the talent we have here at FMAT.
“Bringing the four schools together is a brilliant way to share our love of music, dance and drama, and for the students to perform on such a prestigious stage is a massive opportunity for them.

“I’m so proud of all the students who took part in the show – they did themselves, their schools and the entire Trust proud.”
Fairfax Academy’s actors opened the evening with a performance of Hamlet, followed by two dance numbers, band and ensemble performances, and a standout solo from Rosabella Valenti Baker.
After dance was added to the curriculum at Bournville All-Through School and Smith’s Wood Academy this academic year, students from both schools made their showcase dance debut – with solo, duet and group routines highlighting the success of the new dance classes.

Bournville’s ensemble band also gave an impressive performance, while Smith’s Wood Academy’s vocal group delivered a powerful rendition of ‘Rolling in the Deep’. A lively number from Grease, featuring students from the school, also had the audience’s toes tapping.
Erdington Academy showcased students’ musical and theatrical talents through performances by two bands and a colourful number from Matilda, which students performed at Birmingham Hippodrome this Summer following coaching from a professional actor.

The evening ended on a suitably uplifting note as students from all four schools joined together as part of the FMAT Choir to perform ‘Lovely Day’.
Reflecting on the success of the choir, Mr Ashford added: “It was fantastic to bring together the FMAT Choir for a second year. The project continues to grow and is helping us build a Trust-wide choir that we hope will perform at venues across the local community.”
