Fairfax Academy Sixth Form is ‘best in Birmingham’

Fairfax Academy Sixth Form success: Staff and students at Fairfax Academy are celebrating after the school’s Sixth Form was ranked the best in Birmingham in a key measurement.

The school, which is part of the Fairfax Multi-Academy Trust, topped the charts in the all-important ‘A Level progress’ score, in data released by FFT Aspire.

FFT Aspire, which provides data on schools and pupil progress, is used by more than 16,000 schools, multi-academy trusts and local authorities across the country.

Director of Sixth Form at Fairfax, Azania Blake, said: “The hard work and dedication of our students, and the unwavering support of our exceptional staff have led to truly outstanding results.

“If you’re looking for a Sixth Form that pushes boundaries and helps students reach their full potential, look no further!”

The new data revealed that Fairfax received a progress score of +0.25, which means sixth formers at the academy achieve a grade higher in 1 out of 4 exams, compared to students nationally.

Additionally, the progress of pupil premium students in the Fairfax Academy Sixth Form is +0.5, meaning students identified as being from a disadvantaged background achieve a grade higher in 1 out of 2 of their exams, compared to other pupil premium students nationally.

This remarkable data ranks Fairfax 1st in Birmingham for progress among large mixed school Sixth Forms, and with progress at the academy being declared ‘Above Average’, Fairfax ranks in the top 25% of all Sixth Forms nationally.

While Fairfax was praised across the board for progress, certain subjects received special recognition – including Geography, Law, Sociology, Psychology and Biology.

Principal Sean Castle said: “We are so proud of our students and staff, who work tirelessly to ensure challenge is high and that all students achieve both academically and personally.

“At Fairfax, we’re always striving to grow and improve – we’re never complacent. Knowing that this progress has been recognised has affirmed everything we’re doing. We couldn’t be more proud.”
