Alumni needed for fast‑paced Bournville ‘Guess My Job’ event

Bournville Guess My Job event: Bournville School is inviting former students to take part in this summer’s Guess My Job careers event, designed to show Year 8 pupils just how many exciting paths a Bournville education can lead to.

Moving between small groups, each guest will have only a few minutes to answer students’ questions before the timer runs out.

Independent Careers Advisor Gurjit Matto, who is organising the event with Careers Lead Rhian Field, hopes to welcome a wide mix of alumni back through the doors.

Mrs Matto said: “Hearing from people who once sat in the same classrooms helps students see what’s possible and imagine their own future ambitions.

“It would be great to have alumni come in and show our current students the excellence and success that comes out of Bournville School, so they can see that students just like them went on to achieve their dream jobs.”

The students will be able to ask questions about the guests’ roles, experience and how they gained the knowledge and skills needed to land their position.

Mrs Matto said: “I want to make the children aware of all the different options available, and that they can choose something that aligns with their needs and ambitions – whether it’s college, sixth form, workplace apprenticeships or higher education.”

Mrs Matto offers an extensive programme of careers support at Bournville School.

The event is part of a packed programme of career activities at Bournville School, including the annual Careers Fair, interview practice for Year 11, and visits to local colleges and universities.

These opportunities give students a real taste of life beyond school and help them feel confident about the choices ahead.

Mrs Matto said: “The events I run are all about improving their readiness for post-16 life, and helping our students decide which path they want to go down.

She also works closely with vulnerable and SEND students, including home visits for those struggling with attendance, ensuring every young person receives the guidance they need.
