Plantsbrook School University event sees experts from eight uni’s advise students

Plantsbrook School University event – Students who are hoping to win their dream ‘uni’ place got a hand from eight different universities to help them put together the perfect application.

Year 12 pupils at the school, which is part of the Broadleaf Partnership Trust, got top tips directly from university experts on how to put together a personal statement for their applications, on Tuesday, July 12.

The Upper Holland Road school welcomed staff from Coventry University, BCU, the University of Northampton, Aberystwyth University, Nottingham Trent University, the University of Leicester and the University Campus of Football Business.

A students’ Personal Statement is an important part of their university application, setting out their interests, skills and experience to admissions staff.

Plantsbrook School University event included presentations

Students were given presentations on the best ways to put together a statement, as well as face-to-face advice from the experts.

Pauline Knowles, Careers Adviser, said: “We are so grateful that so many universities supported this event, which was arranged to help Year 12 students understand what goes into a Personal Statement.

“When these students return to school in September, in Year 13, it will be full-on UCAS applications for them, before Christmas.

“So, this event aimed to get the students to start thinking about their Personal Statements and what to put in them, under the guidance of the Uni school liaison officers, who could give them a very clear idea on the best approach to take.

“Hopefully it will have inspired students to start drafting their Personal Statement over the summer, so we can get first draft when they come back in September.”

Headteacher Jason Farr said: “The Personal Statement Day was a great success and is another example of how at Plantsbrook we try to equip students with all the information and skills they need to get the university place they really want.

“We are very grateful to all the university staff who gave up their time to share their valuable knowledge with Plantsbrook students.”
