Erdington Academy Open Evening – school welcomes the community

Erdington Academy will throw open its doors this week for the first in a series of events allowing local children and their families to learn more about the school.

The school, on Kingsbury Road, Erdington, is holding an Open Evening on Thursday (Evening September 25th) from 5-7.30pm, which will help unveil improvements made at the site over the summer.

These include a new science lab, sensory room and revamped classrooms for humanities subjects such as English, history, geography and art.

Visitors to the Erdington Academy Open Evening will also be able to see the new artwork that has been added around the site, creating a brighter environment in the school, which is part of the ambitious Fairfax Multi-Academy Trust.

And prospective new students, who are considering choosing Erdington as their secondary school, will get to hear from other pupils about life at the academy, with Year 7 and Year 11 children speaking and showing them around.

This week’s event will be followed by a series of friendly Open Mornings next month, which will run from 10am-12noon on October 2nd, 9th and 16th.

Morning events to follow Erdington Academy Open Evening

Principal Simon Mallett said: “We’re looking forward to welcoming local families into Erdington Academy this week and to our opening mornings, to share with them what life is like attending a school that is at the heart of its community.

“They’ll get to hear from staff and students about how we provide a caring, supportive environment that encourages students to reach their full potential, with a real sense of belonging at the centre of school life – it’s what we call the ‘Erdington way!’

“They can learn about our curriculum, which aims to develop students’ hearts and minds, so they can bring positive change to themselves, their communities and beyond.

“But they’ll also get to find out about all the extra-curricular activities they can get involved in, from sport to music, from gardening to photography. We also have a strong tradition of participating in the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme.

“And we get to show off some of the improvements that have been made here over the summer, with significant investment in the facilities.

“Erdington Academy regularly opens its doors to the community for events, and we’re looking forward to welcoming some new faces to find out about our school over the next few weeks.”
