Brookvale Primary School in Erdington has been praised in its OFSTED results for its ‘high expectations’ and judged to be good with outstanding features.
Brookvale Primary School, part of the respected Arthur Terry Learning Partnership (ATLP), has achieved a grading of ‘good’ in all areas. It also received ‘outstanding’ judgements for its effectiveness of leadership and management, and early years provision.
In a report published this week, following an inspection in February, lead inspector Declan McCauley writes:
‘Teaching, learning and pupils’ achievement have improved rapidly because of the relentless drive and tenacity of school leaders and governors to ensure the best outcomes for pupils.’
He adds:
‘Pupils are making good progress in their learning’ and, ‘Pupils are exceptionally well supported in their learning in a culture of high expectations.’
Firm and decisive leadership drives Brookvale Primary School OFSTED result
The Brookvale Primary School OFSTED results also praises the behaviour of pupils, their ‘outstanding ‘personal development and welfare, strong governance and partnership working.
It finds Brookvale is, ‘continuing to improve because of the firm and decisive leadership of senior leaders, governors and officers of the Arthur Terry Learning Partnership.’
Headteacher Jonathan Smart said: “This is a fantastic judgement for Brookvale. Our children, staff, governors and parents have worked hard to ensure that we aim high and achieve the best.
“It’s testament to the hard work and dedication of so many that Ofsted recognises how much progress we’ve made, along with our high expectations. We are honoured and overjoyed to give our families a school to be proud of.”
In addition to their findings on teaching, learning and leadership, inspectors also commented on how ‘well rounded and well prepared’ pupils are.
The Brookvale Primary School OFSTED report finds, ‘The curriculum is exceptionally well designed to meet the needs of pupils. It is very well focused on developing pupils beyond their academic capabilities.’
Inspectors also observed how much pupils enjoy the company of others in the playground and participate in a wide range of exciting opportunities. They noted, ‘pupils danced excitedly to pop music.’

Jonathan added: “Academic attainment is just part of the bigger picture at Brookvale and we are pleased that Ofsted recognised how vibrant and happy our school is.
“They commented on our caring and nurturing nature, and what they saw was an authentic and welcoming home from home. If we can instil a genuine love of learning in our children, then this will prepare them for a lifetime of opportunity.”
Wealth of experience
Brookvale is part of the respected Arthur Terry Learning Partnership, a multi-academy trust of 10 schools, five children’s centres and one teaching school.
During their visit, inspectors noted, ‘School leaders, at all levels, are benefitting a great deal from membership of the Arthur Terry Learning Partnership.
Leaders draw upon the wealth of experience available within the partnership to support improvements in teaching and learning.’
