PLANTSBROOK SCHOOL CAREERS FAIR IS THE BUSINESS

PUPILS at Plantsbrook School had a taste of the world of work after businesses signed up for a special careers fair in the main hall.

More than a dozen universities and colleges also took part in the ambitious Plantsbrook School Careers Fair at the site in Upper Holland Road, which offered careers advice ranging from catering and accountancy to life in the armed forces.

Nearly every year group at the school visited the event on Tuesday, October 16, from Year 9 to sixth formers, while Year 8 pupils were given talks in their classrooms by employers which aimed toi inspire them.

The school’s Careers Advisor, Sarah Cook, said there was a real ‘buzz’ around the school as youngsters waited for their turn to visit the fair, which has taken three months to arrange.

“The idea was to cover as many sectors as we could for the students,” she said.

“We want to get the kids, regardless of what age they are, thinking and talking about the world of work or further education.

“The older pupils can get some real advice about what their next steps can be, to allow them to weigh up their choices.

“With the younger children, it’s about encouraging them to go and speak to anybody, to help them develop the skills to have that kind of conversation.”

Headteacher Tracy Campbell said: “It’s been a really great opportunity for our students to reflect on their future careers aspirations. I would like to thank our careers team for organising and our exhibitors for coming along and supporting the event.”
