TALENTED SHRUBBERY PUPIL GEORGINA WINS TV BADGE OF HONOUR

Talented Shrubbery pupil Georgina Brown, who developed an eagle eye for bird watching during lockdown, has used her artistic skills to win a coveted Blue Peter badge.

Georgina, 8, joins fellow badge winners Marcus Rashford, Greta Thunberg and Her Majesty the Queen, after bosses at the iconic kids’ TV show were impressed by her drawing of a Golden Eagle.

Georgina’s mum, Nicola, said: “Georgina really got into bird watching during lockdown, and would sit in her bedroom looking for them every day in our back garden.

“We set up a bird feeder in the trees outside her window to attract more of them, and she’s even joined the RSPB to learn more about them.”

However, the subject of Georgina’s badge-winning picture – a Golden eagle – was not a visitor to her Eachelhurst Road garden.

“I felt really happy and proud when I heard I had won the badge,” said Georgina, who also has five pet fish at home.

“I love animals because they cheer me up and are always up to something!”

Shrubbery headteacher Amanda Lees said: “We are really proud of Georgina for winning her Blue Peter badge – it’s something she can cherish for the rest of her life!”

What are the benefits to having a Blue Peter badge? Badge owners, with a valid badge card, can gain free entry into over 200 Blue Peter Badge attractions around the country such as theme parks, zoos and castles.

Blue Peter badges are frequently given out to children who appear on the show. Additionally, viewers aged 6–15 can apply for a badge by corresponding with the show by post. Applications require a message of at least 50 words explaining why a badge is deserved and often include drawings, poems, or other creative works.
