Perryfields Academy Grandparents Christmas event: Oldbury youngsters studying hospitality served up a festive treat for grandparents and elderly residents at a school’s special Christmas celebration.
The Perryfields Academy students – who are studying for a BTEC in Hospitality and Catering – prepared and served up tasty Christmas treats for the local VIPs, who were invited into the school for a festive afternoon tea.
And Santa was on hand to compere a game of bingo, as well as a prize raffle at the Oldacre Road school, which is part of the Broadleaf Partnership Trust.
Headteacher Clare Harris said: “Perryfields is a school at the heart of our community and we really value the relationship we have not just with parents and carers abut with grandparents as well, because they so often play an important role in the children’s lives.

“So, today’s event was about inviting them in, to thank them for their support, and also for our hospitality students to test themselves and provide a really professional, enjoyable afternoon.”
Perryfields Academy Grandparents Christmas event reaches out to community
The event was the latest idea from the school aiming to reach out to the community, from organising a Christmas Market to providing free uniforms for new students who joined in September.
Mrs Harris added: “After the lockdowns of the last two years, we’re really keen to get the community to come into the school again, and everyone had a great time at the afternoon tea.
“The students have made everything in terms of the food and put so much effort and time into this afternoon, and we are exceptionally proud of what they achieved.”
