Perryfields Academy’s annual show: Talented students from an Oldbury school shone on stage at Stourbridge Town Hall ‘For One Night Only’.
As part of the academy’s annual gala performance on Wednesday, February 28th, Perryfields pupils showcased their skills in a range of performing arts, from music and dance to drama.
Head of Performing Arts Sam Jones said the students had been working on the show for months at the school, which is part of the Broadleaf Partnership Trust.
“This year we had around 90 students involved in the show, with some helping backstage as well,” she said.
“We’ve been rehearsing since September, and the children have shown so much dedication. Some students have used lesson time for rehearsals, but others have been doing it in their break times, at lunch or even before and after school, all to perfecting their performances ready for the big show.
Dedication behind Perryfields Academy’s annual show
“A lot of commitment has gone into this, from staff members and students – it was a fantastic night and the audience really loved it.”
Performances included exam pieces by BTEC Performing Arts and GCSE Music students, pieces put together by the school’s extracurricular clubs, and work created by passionate students. The audience was treated to a wide variety of performances, including acting and classical music, as well as diverse genres of dance from contemporary and jazz to street and afrobeat.
And the venue of Stourbridge Town Hall provided the young performers with a taste of life on the professional stage.
Sam said: “Most students only experience performing arts at school and wouldn’t get this kind of opportunity to put on a show externally.
“Performing at the Town Hall gives our showcase a more professional feel, with the big stage, lighting and the backstage element. It also gives the students important experience if performing is a field they’d like to explore further.
“It really gives them a sense of professionalism and something to feel proud of – and we are very proud of the show they produced.”
