FMAT schools showcase 2024 – Bournville students star in a night to remember

FMAT schools showcase 2024: Talented students from Bournville School joined the other schools in the respected Fairfax Multi-Academy Trust at Birmingham University for the fantastic 2024 FMAT Showcase.

Bournville School, Erdington Academy, Fairfax Academy and Smith’s Wood Academy came together in the University’s impressive Elgar Concert Hall for a fantastic night of music, drama, dance and spoken word performances, which showcased the immense talent of FMAT’s performing arts students. It was the third annual showcase, and the entertainment was as impressive as ever.

It was the first showcase attended by the Bournville band, whose rendition of You Belong With Me by Taylor Swift had the audience singing along. The band’s brilliant musicians were Millie Evans, Aryanna Dima, Erin O’Malley and Rose Cassidy on vocals, Sharntay Francis-King on keyboard, Angelica Nembhard on electric guitar and Jacob Patterson on drums, with representatives from Year 7 to Year 10.

Bournville also put forward spectacular solo performances. Year 10 pianist Melisa Kogut played “Primavera” by Einaudi, and Year 11 flautist Parmis Hajihassani stunned the audience with her own arrangement of Shostakovich’s “Waltz No. 2”.

Year 9’s Honey Walsh performed an excellent dance solo, and Year 9 pianist Carlos Lau had the audience swaying to the familiar melody of “Can You Feel The Love Tonight”.

The night ended with students from all four schools coming together on stage for the curtain call.

It was an incredible night for the four schools, and Bournville students left the stage with a sense of pride.

Music teacher Alice Charterton said: “Our students were so proud to perform in such a prestigious venue – it really showed them how valued their talent and hard work is.

“And of course, they made us at Bournville incredibly proud. They did amazing to perform to such a high standard.

“It’s a memory they will treasure for the rest of their lives.”

Principal Miss Marie Rooney said: “We set our standards high at Bournville, and the showcase gave our students the opportunity to perform on a prestigious stage where many highly respected musicians have performed.

“It was a night that I’m sure they will remember for years to come, and hopefully one that has shown them what they can achieve through hard work and dedication.”
