‘Wonderful’ staff bring new life to school library as MP joins in the celebrations

Lichfield’s Scotch Orchard Primary School started an exciting new chapter last week when its new-look library was officially opened by MP Dave Robertson.

There was no sign of ‘silence’ as the Lichfield MP cut the ribbon on the newly refurbished library, to cheers of joy from children and staff.

The school, which is part of the respected Arthur Terry Learning Partnership, has been revamping the facility since Christmas to create a new space to help children develop a love of reading.

Dedicated staff worked over half-term to give the library a new lease of life, bringing their artistic flair to create a magical space for pupils.

And now the staff, who have been described as “wonderful” by Deputy Headteacher James Chapman, are using the space to teach pupils, who are thrilled with their new school library.

James said: “We were delighted to welcome Dave to Scotch Orchard to officially open our fantastic new library.

“The children were thrilled to visit the new space and to meet their local MP who gave an assembly and took time to meet pupils and answer their questions. It’s clear that Dave shares our passion for education and reading and we would like to thank him for his support and time.

“Huge thanks to the wonderful school staff who gave up their time and talents to create a space where children can immerse themselves in the world of books. I’m so proud of the team and for all their hard work and commitment to teaching and learning.

“The children are so excited by the new library.  Reading brings learning to life and our new space is packed with great books that will fire young imaginations and help our children to foster a lifelong love of reading.”

Dave Robertson MP said: “It was a pleasure to be invited into Scotch Orchard to open the new library, which looks fantastic!

“The children asked me lots of questions, including what it’s like to be an MP and what my favourite book is, and it was a pleasure to meet everybody at the school.

“It’s clear that Scotch Orchard is committed to delivering quality education to every single child, and it was great to hear about the exciting ahead. This school is at the heart of its local community and I’m looking forward to working with James and his team to support their exciting vision for the future.”
