Nether Stowe Christmas jumper day raises cash for Save the Children

Nether Stowe Christmas jumper day: Students and staff donned festive knitwear, as part of a fun fundraising effort for Save The Children.

The Lichfield school, which is part of the respected Arthur Terry Learning Partnership (ATLP), invited members of the school community to attend school decked in their finest festive gear to raise money for the charity.

Cover and Timetable Manager Georgia Young drove the initiative, which formed just one part of Nether Stowe’s Christmas celebrations this year.

Miss Young said: “We wanted to get involved in Christmas jumper day but not just for the sake of it – we don’t want to forget that we’re doing it in aid of Save The Children.

“Everyone’s been involved – the kids were full of smiles this morning, and all the staff have participated too!”

Students and staff who participated were invited to donate money to the worthy cause, with the school community coming together to reach their donation target.

Miss Young said: “For the fundraising, we set a small target of £100, because some students come from disadvantaged backgrounds and we didn’t want to force everyone to donate. We received so many generous donations – it’s been wonderful.

“We’ve hit our target, and we’re hoping it will keep growing over the next few days as our donation box remains open.”

And Christmas jumper day wasn’t the only festive fun for Nether Stowe students last week. The school have put on a number of events internally to get students in the holiday spirit, including a Christmas card designing competition and a delicious Christmas dinner for all students.

But for Mrs/Miss Young, seeing the staff and students unite in support for Save The Children was the highlight of the holiday season at Nether Stowe.

She said: “This charity scheme has been important in two ways. Firstly, it’s important to highlight that Christmas can be difficult for some families and children, and show our students that we can do our bit to help.

“Aside from the charity aspect, it’s also nice to remind the students that you can have fun in school! You can still be your own person and have a laugh, while also respecting the message of what we’re doing.

“I’d like to thank everyone who got involved, and especially the staff who made such an effort – seeing teachers get stuck in and celebrate really makes a difference for the students.

“I’m really proud of what we’ve managed to accomplish for the charity.”
