Bournville Academy Christmas Fair is festive fund-raising success

Bournville Academy Christmas Fair: Bournville students are set to get their Christmas wish fulfilled this year, after a fantastic festive fair raised funds for new equipment.

Parents, staff and pupils got into the Christmas the Fayre at the academy – which is part of the ambitious Fairfax Multi-Academy Trust – when it was held in the main hall on Tuesday, December 3.

An annual Christmas tradition at Bournville which was revived in 2023, the colourful event was attended by primary and secondary students from across the academy.

The School Council – which provides a voice for students – had voted for some of the money raised by the fair to be used to buy sports equipment for pupils to use during social time.

And with games and activities, seasonal refreshments, goodies on sale and the ever-popular Santa’s Grotto, the Fayre managed to raise £700 for the cause. There was even a competitive element between the academy’s houses.

Assistant Principal Holly Poole said: “The fair was a great success, and there was a real ‘buzz’ about the place – every tutor group had a stall where they either had a game, or a craft they’d made to sell.

“The four houses – Austin, Boulton, Cadbury and Tolkein – competed to raise the most money. Cadbury were the outstanding winners, raising £200 themselves!”

Games on offer included a chocolate tombola, ‘name the elf’ challenge and a contest to guess how many sweets there were in a giant jar. Guests were treated to a range of delicious refreshments, including Christmas cupcakes, hot chocolate reindeers, mince pies and samosas.

But by far the most popular stall, especially among the primary-aged pupils, was Santa’s Grotto, which was even staffed by a team of jolly elves.

Staff and parents were highly impressed by the student leaders’ organisation on the day, as they were responsible for running the event.

Principal Marie Rooney said: “Our student leaders were fantastic and really drove the success of this event. They set up their activities, dressed up in Christmassy attire and ran their stalls to perfection.

“We really have them to thank for bringing the Christmas spirit to Bournville.”
