Nether Stowe Foodbank collection sees hundreds of items donated

Nether Stowe Foodbank collection – Students at Nether Stowe school have proven that it is the season of giving, by collecting hundreds of items for Lichfield’s Foodbank.

Youngsters at the school, in St Chad’s Road, were challenged to bring in food as part of their college system – which aims to inspire positive competition among the children.

And all four of the school’s colleges – Beacon, Chase, Trent and Wall – rose to the challenge to build a mountain of food to support struggling families this Christmas.

Martin Doleman, Head of Beacon College, said: “This is the perfect time of year for the children to think about people who are less fortunate than themselves and we have been impressed by the reaction to the Foodbank collection.

“The college system aims to generate a little friendly rivalry, but it also helps the students to develop a sense of community and learn about teamwork. Each college selects a charity to support, but with the Foodbank the whole school got involved.

“The Foodbank collection also allows the children to see how they can tangibly make a difference for people who are struggling to get just the basics this Christmas, and it helps them to think about more than presents and chocolates.

“We have been really blown away by how the students and their families have responded to this.”

Nether Stowe Foodbank collection is third appeal launched by school

This is the third annual Foodbank collection organised by Nether Stowe, which is part of the Arthur Terry Learning Partnership.

Lichfield Foodbank is based at two sites – Wade Street Church Office, in Frog Lane and Life Church Lichfield, Netherstowe – and was founded by local churches and community groups, with the aim of working together towards stopping hunger in the local area.

It provides help to people who are referred to the Foodbank by a number of local agencies, including Citizens Advice, housing support officers, children’s centres, health visitors, social services and some local charities.
